1.) Do I get my own gauge cluster back or is it an exchange program?

Absolutely! We receive your gauges, service them, and send your gauges back to you. Among other reasons, the main one is that most of the gauges store the bike's mileage internally. It would not be right to send back a set of gauges with different mileages.

2.) What is the normal turnaround time?

Although not guaranteed, all orders are usually shipped within 2-3 days of being received unless there is some type of problem (Such as no payment, no return address, a part out of stock, holiday). We try to ship all orders ASAP. We ride too and know what it's like to be without your ride for an extended length of time.

3.) How do I know you won't damage my gauges?

We can't do much to prove it to you other than tell you we have thousands of satisfied customers. We can't guarantee the shipping process, that's why we insure every gauge we ship. (See our policy page for more info). Friend us on facebook (search for Blue Gauges) and post pictures and read reviews.

4.) Is your work guaranteed?

On the rare occasion that something may go wrong with the lighting of your gauges we will gladly test your gauges at no charge. Since we only work on the lighting and faceplate portions of the gauges, we offer to repair any problems you may have with these areas only at no charge for the entire time you own the gauges. If there is a problem with our work, we will pay priority mail return shipping back to you and refund up to $10 to cover your cost of shipping back to us. If the problem is not a result of our work or there is no problem with the gauges, then you will need to pay for shipping both ways.

5.) Will this mod affect my warranty?

Most likely the dealer will give you a hard time if they see the gauges had been modified. Dealers will often put more effort into finding a reason not to honor your warranty than to attempt fixing the problem. Don't let them instantly say "it must be the gauges". If they try to tell you this, have them prove it first by using a known good set of gauges.

6.) How do I ship my gauges to you?

Our address is a UPS store, where we can receive all the delivery services including, Fed Ex, UPS, Airborne Express, US Mail. The most common methods people use to ship their gauges to us is UPS (Ground) or Priority Mail. If shipping Priority Mail, just ask for insurance on your package. Total should be around $10 if the box doesn't have a ton of packing material in it. For UPS, you have to specify the extra insurance on their forms. Please do not disassemble your gauges. They are safe with the covers on. You may however remove any extra weight or parts that you dont want to get damaged such as chrome or visors (like the M109 tach) or heavy metal cases (Like the Harley V-Rod)

For orders from outside the USA:  PLEASE READ

7.) Do you have a phone number that I can call in an order?

Unfortunately, at this time we don't have a business phone. All orders by credit card can only be taken through paypal.com. If you need to contact us for other reasons questions, the best way is via email. We answer all emails every single day!! Even on the rare occasion we are out of the office, you will at least get an automated response. If you don't get a response by email, please make sure you gave us a working email address and be sure that you can accept messages from email addressed from bluegauges@yahoo.com. We often can't get a reply through because of an incorrect email address or an email account that is over quota and not accepting any more email or because yahoo is listed as a spam domain.  We take great pride in answering emails quickly and we stress that if you don't hear from us, try sending another email from a different email account . You may also want to make sure you can receive emails from stamps.com as this is how you will be notified of tracking information.

8.) I am in a hurry, can you get the gauges back to me fast?

We can ship overnight by FedEx, UPS, or Express Mail. With UPS or FedEx you can prepay the return shipping and include the label with your gauges. For Express Mail, just add the express mail upgrade at the bottom of the backlighting page related to your gauges. For faceplate orders, add $15 to your order. This does not mean we can improve the turnaround time, only that the time in shipping is reduced.

9.) How do I order?

We have put together an extensive description of the ordering process on  this page.

10.) Where can I get a different faceplate?

We offer Illumiglo faceplates  HERE. We also offer custom made faceplates for Harley gauges HERE.  Faceplates are installed free when ordered with backlighting and qualify for a lifetime warranty when we do the installation. In the case of the illumiglo faceplates which require 12v power, we can install them directly to the circuit board inside of the gauge cluster so they become "Plug and Play". (See question #16).

11.) Can you tell me how I can change the mileage in my gauges?

This information is not available.  More Info HERE

12.) Can I buy a kit and do the backlighting myself?

We do not sell individual LED's and we would not suggest doing this modification yourself. It is much too difficult for the average person. We have seen too many damaged gauges that end up costing $400-$600 to replace. Besides, we have tested many LED's for maximum brightness and believe to have the brightest available. Also, we have purchased large quantities of LED's and can offer the service for a slight bit more than what it would cost you to do it yourself. However if you must do it yourself -->See an example of what's involved here. If you let your buddy do your gauges and they are now not functioning, we can also do repairs.  You must send the gauges to us for an estimate before we can quote a price but most repairs are $75 or less.

13.) Can you tell me the specifications of the LED's you use so that I can find my own?

The LED's vary depending on the bike. Most of the bikes use a size 1208. Different bikes use a different number of LED's. (Anywhere from 8 in the 954 gauges to 31 in the Hayabusa gauges) I understand the situation you may be in (overseas, etc.) but, we have spent several hours looking for and testing several different pieces from several manufacturers for each and every gauge available on this website. Most of this information is not given out freely.

14.) Can you do backlight modifications on other models not listed on your home page?

We are always adding new models to the list. If you believe that your gauges use LED's (not Bulbs) we will do them for only the cost of parts and shipping. In exchange, we ask that you allow a few extra days for testing, pictures, etc. Send us an e-mail. If you are unsure whether your gauges use bulbs or LED's, you will have to open them up and look. The following links are to pictures to show what a bulb looks like versus an LED.

LED EXAMPLE An LED will be surface mounted to the top side of the board and can not be changed without soldering equipment.

BULB EXAMPLE Bulbs will be mounted in holes in the board and can easily be removed by hand.

15.) What is an illumiglo faceplate and how does it work?

An illumiglo faceplate uses EL technology similar to the "indiglo" watches that were very popular a few years ago.
EL - (Electroluminescence): Is defined as direct conversion of electric energy to light energy by a solid phosphor subjected to an alternating electric field. An organic phosphor is sandwiched between two conductors. When an AC signal of sufficient voltage and frequency is applied to the conductors an electric field is formed across the phosphor. This causes the phosphor to emit visible light.  When installed in your gauges, it will block out any stock backlighting. It needs to be powered up externally. You will need to connect 2 wires (12v and ground). This 12v will be converted to 140v AC by way of a small transformer included with the faceplate.

16.) What do you mean by "plug and play" installation on illumiglo faceplates?

All illumiglo faceplates require external battery voltage to light up. Normally, you have to run a wire out of the back of the gauges and tap it into the fuse box or some other switched device. We route that wiring back into the gauge cluster and solder the connections directly to the circuit board inside the gauges. This way when you get your gauges back, there is no external wiring needed. Simply install your gauges as you removed them and everything is ready to go. The image here shows what the wiring will look like when it is completed. It will be routed out one of the vent holes so that it doesn't get in the way of the rubber boot that goes over the main connector. When you get your gauges back from us all you need to do is mount the transformer with double sided tape somewhere such that it wont get pinched.

17.) I bought LED's on Ebay and tried to do the mod myself - none of the LED's work, and the LCD may be damaged, can you fix it?

We will gladly take a look but depending on the extent of the damage we may not be able to help. If the damage is not too bad, we can fix most issues. However, if the damage is extensive (and trust us when we say we have seen some horrible work) then it would be cheaper to buy a used gauge, have the mileage corrected and start over by sending them to us for the lighting modifications. We highly recommend not doing this mod if you have never touched a soldering iron before. It will be much cheaper for you in the long run to do it right the first time. But, if you insist on trying it yourself we dont mind the extra repair work.

18.) I bought  LED's on Ebay and after seeing the instructions, decided this is a job for the professionals, will you give a discount if I send you these LED's?

We never install our competitors LED's for 2 major reasons.
1) Reliability / Warranty: We are unable to test the durability of the LED's to see if they meet our strict standards for resisting failure. We will not be able to honor any type of warranty on untested LED's
2.) Quality: Chances are the LED's do not match up to our high quality standards. If we put your LED's in and they fail or are too dim, it makes us look bad. We refuse to put our name on work that may look inferior. This is a major reason why we do not offer pink or purple LED's, there just isn't anything out there that is bright enough. Ebay sellers will sell you anything to make a quick buck but we believe the secret to staying in business is to offer a good service and provide a quality product.

19.) I just bought a new engine for my bike, can you change the miles to 0 to match the engine?

No... The odometer is meant to represent the mileage on the frame and is recorded against the VIN number. The proper procedure is to document the engine swap and record the mileage at the time to present to future buyers.

20.) Do you have any pictures of (insert option here) ?

No... All the pictures I have are on this website. It is in my best interest to post as many pictures as possible. Any new pictures I acquire are immediately uploaded for all to view.
